I hope you and all your furry friends are well and have has a great summer.
I have been loving and having the most fun with Barnaby -
out of Java and Hershey's April 2008 litter -
and really had to laugh out loud when you described their litter as the "SUV" litter.
Nothing could be more true!
He has a deep, deep chocolate brown coat, bright brown eyes,
very sharp white baby teeth and seems to be getting bigger every day!
At 4 1/2 months he weighs 45 pounds.
He is loving, follows me wherever I go, loves to cuddle in bed, on the couch,
wherever, just doesn't realize that he is outgrowing that "lap-dog" stage!
He loves going for rides in the car, especially with the top down and loves the water.
Any water, if it's wet, he's in it! He's is going to love the snow!
Over the summer Barnaby and I attended Puppygarten - a basic 8 week obedience class with 2 other pups.
Barnaby was the youngest and caught on quickly to all tasks - sit, stay, paw, lie down - when he wanted to.
He is head strong! He also learned to walk with me on the lead.
But, the one issue, that I was and still am very concerned about is his biting. Yep, he still is doing it.
The vet, Vince the trainer and the owner of our local Pet Shop say it's a puppy thing, until they see my arms.
It looks like I've been training a lion! Just when the bite marks begin to heal on my arms, it just seems to start all over again.
If I am not paying attention to him, he doesn't think twice about biting my leg or shoulder to get it.
Have any of the other puppies in this litter been guilty of this behavior and/or what next?
I have scheduled an appointment with another trainer and I am not about to quit.
At Barnaby's last Vet Exam, only one of his testicles could be felt, as the other had not decended.
I had planned on having him neutered when he is 9 months to 1 year.
Do you think that might change his "biting behavior"?
Looking forward to hearing from you,
Joan B. and Barnaby

Here are some pictures of our dark brown puppy Remy from the Hershey x Java litter08.
Remy is 3 to 3 1/2 months in these pictures.
I look at them today and it seems like so long ago because he is twice that size now.
I'm going to have to get out the scale and weigh him, he must be almost fifty pounds.
Last week Remy had a big day, he swam out to retrieve a stick for the first time and as since done it several times.
We have been taking him to a dog beach at a nearby lake since his first few days with us, he loves it...
but always chased the dogs to the waters edge and stopped. Not anymore :)
Not bad for 4 1/2 months. Enjoy the pictures,
Laura S., Nova Scotia

I have been meaning to send these pictures of Molly (red female from Razz x Ruby)
all summer but as usual time got away from me.
Hope all is well with you and a great summer was had by all.
Molly has turned from the quiet and shy baby to an outgoing and rowdy young girl.
She loves to bedevil her brother PJ, and for some reason he puts up with it.
The attached pictures still show her as a lighter red.
When I send the more recent pictures later you will see that she has really darkened.
We love her and can't imagine our family without her.
Thank you for entrusting such a wonderful gift to us.
I will send more recent pictures later.
Hope that Razz and Ruby are doing well.
All the best,
The Dietsch Family - Russell, PA

Just wanted to send you a quick update on Kody! (brown male Cocoa x Hershey)
We just got home from the vet and he weighed in at 11 lbs.!
Hard to believe they grow so fast! The vet said he looked great and he was quite the hit in the office
as none of the employees had ever seen a dark brown before!
He was a great rider on the way home to NC and has settled in just fine.
The girls are so happy to have him here - he was well worth the wait!
I will try to write more soon and send some pictures too!
I have attached one for you to see. What a face!
Thanks so much for such a great puppy!
Sincerely, Katie A. - Morrisville, NC

"Fia" @ 1 year of age black female Raven x Hershey........"Remy" at 15 weeks old brown male Java x Hershey
August 20, 2008
And a few updates because this is so great to see the differences between our two dogs
and I dont know (and you probably do) what is due to the male/female aspect and
what can be attributed to a brown or black difference. And by the way they are both wonderful and we LOVE them!
Both are VERRRRRY affectionate although Fia (black female from Raven) is more of an attention grabber and far more needy.
She follows you everywhere and never seems to rest. She is also our house protector.
Regan has already trained Fia in flyball and you should see her jump and catch in the air. SO cool.
Hopefully when school starts for the kids I can get some formal obedience and agility done.
She is also into jumping hurdles. (Remember how fast she was tearing around your yard?) She is still fast.
She is definitely the one to please us with anything immediately.
On the other hand, our boy Remy (Java x Hershey brown boy) is the MOST laid back dude I have ever seen.
Lifts his head occasionally but just content to watch life go by. Likes his walks and some ball time outside.
Would rather plunk down in the shade. He is also clumsier that she is maybe due to the larger bone structure like his mom(?).
He is far less worried about everything. More stubborn. I taught her to shake in a day.
After four days of working with him, I had to look at what I was doing wrong.
Soooo, since he is a food chow hound (she is still dainty) I would not give him his breakfast till he shook paws (ha).
The little bugger did it on t he spot. I had a feeling he was smart. He is much quieter than her and she is pretty quiet. Almost no barking.
In fact, when we first had him he did not bark in the crate like her and kept going on the towels and pushing them to the side.
( I think he was too lazy to ask to be taken outside at night) I was getting frustrated until I removed all towels and pads in his crate.
Never an accident since. With him, we found out you have to think about what makes him tick.
Fia just does. He is such a gentleman when people come over – she still jumps.
He loves all dogs and because of him she has lost a lot of her timid behavior around other dogs.
I have to say that they seem not to want to be without each other.
In the morning I find her sleeping next to his crate. Hopefully we will be done with it in a couple months.
On August 16th (4 months) he was officially 31 pounds and 20 inches tall) Should turn out to be a nice sized boy.
Lastly, he gets car sick within 10 minutes of riding in the car.
Got any ideas or does it pass eventually? The vet said for long trips Dramamine was okay.
We are headed to Chicago with them soon and was wondering what you thought.
Again all our best to you and the dogs and my brother and his wife are looking forward to their new puppy. (So am I)

Happy Birthday to "Fia's" RavenxHershey July 30, 2007 sisters and brothers!
Here is our beautiful one year old black girl, Fia. Just freshly groomed
and posing.
I decided to try a go at it all myself at a less than ideal
first clip at a major pet store when she was 7 months old.
It was not hard,
just time consuming.
But she looked so good that two more poodle owners
want me to do theirs. Hmmm...maybe a new business.
Also sending a picture of our 15 week old brown male from JavaxHershey April
16th, 2008.
Already 24 pounds, 17 inches tall. What a good looking guy!
Very sweet and very mellow and VERY bold. Will try anything. Love him.
Thanks again for everything !

Greetings! We keep track of you and the pups through the Web site!
Attached is a first-year photo of our wonderful standard poodle Fidel,
(black male Raven x Hershey) officially Klars Fidel.
He weighs about 70 pounds now, and is a wonderful dog!
He is so friendly he wants to say hello to every dog and person he meets and everyone in the neighborhood knows him.
My husband even made a list of Fidel's "dog friends" and it has about 40 names on it so far!
He has a cockapoo friend across the street who plays with him every day (they love to rip around the yard and roughhouse)
and he "met" another black standard poodle, also born in Canada, and they love to race around the high school field together.
(Fidel weighs about 20 pounds more than his friend.) Fidel seems to know instinctively to let
older dogs alone and just hang out with them rather than play rough though,
and even the 14-year-old dog Daisy next door likes to hang out with him now.
He's also very smart, and must know more than 60 words.
Fidel is a bit timid about some things (he won't go down the basement steps and doesn't like dark corners and so far is not interested in swimming).
We figure he'll get more enthusiastic about the water when we take him to a cottage on Lake Erie at the end of the summer.
He's a wonderful pet, finished basic dog obedience and we may sign him up for agility training or therapy dog training next year.
Thank you for a wonderful dog!
Just a question: Our friend the poodle owner warned us about poodles and gastric torsion.
Have any of your poodles ever had that?
We've become very cautious about letting him have food/water immediately after exercise after reading about that.

"Greta" at 3 months old
July 13, 2008
I just can't tell you how much I am loving Greta (brown female Hershey x Java 2008).
The bike trailer is working great.....I will send a picture soon.
The life jacket and canoeing is working great too!
A neighbor of mine took this picture today! I thought you would love it!
Greta has an amazing disposition.
People tell me every day that she is the most beautiful dog they have ever seen
and that she is amazing for a puppy.
We start obedience classes next week and I am looking forward to learning more.
Any tips on going down stairs?
Greta is very hesitant.....we are taking it "one step at a time"!
Also, what are your suggestions for when to groom.....
we are totally into the lamb cut just wondering at what age to start?
Thanks for all the ways you care.

Stella at 4 months of age on September 2, 2008
We just wanted to drop you a quick note
(with some new updated photos) of our girl Stella from (Hershey & Abby May 2008).
As you can see from the photos she is a little bigger these days
from when we picked her up from you back in June.
She will be starting obedience classes next week.
Over this past holiday weekend we took her to one of our favourite local wine vineyards
to get some fresh air and to hang out with us while we enjoyed a bottle
of dry Riesling, she really loves a good drive.
Thanks for everything and take care.
Keith & Kathy B. – NY

July 8, 2008
Stella (Hershey x Abby brown female) loves to go for walks and short jogs around the neighborhood
and field behind our house as well as just sit with us on the sofa watching TV.
Everybody who meets her loves her, they can't believe how cute and calm she is even around other dogs.
I recently decided to purchased a new camera so we can get some good photos
of her before she grows up, they grow up so quickly.
Thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to have Stella be a part of our family.

Well, as we're coming up to Riley's (dark brown Male out of Hershey x Raven) first birthday,
I thought I would give you an update on our beautiful boy.
Laura - I have had 2 wonderful poodles before but Riley takes the cake.
As most poodles are, I am convinced that he is part human. He is the most fun-loving, affecionate dog that we could have asked for.
When you hug him he hugs back! The other day, I caught him trying to drink out of a glass on the counter that I had forgotten to put out of poodle reach.
Honestly, he had the class cupped in both paws and had tipped it forward as if to take a drink!!
I know that I don't need to tell you how wonderful your dogs are
but I want you to know how much we LOVE our boy!!!
It has been a great experience for the girls as my old pooch (border collie x turning 13 this Sept.)
was around before they were and they missed out on the puppy experience. They have bonded to Riley like another sibling.
In fact, the girls went out to Sherwood Park last week to spend 5 weeks with their dad
and Riley was quite mopey, obviously missing his playmates.
Riley completed his first level obedience a couple of weeks ago.
We did 'clicker' training with Dreamweavers training and I was very pleased with his progress.
One more round of obedience and then we should be ready for agility.
We recently took him on the Bark-in-the-Park event in London
where we walked 5k and raised $200+ for the Humane Society (pictures attached).
I have really tried to socialize him as I did not do this with my other dog.
He is very well behaved at the girls' soccer games and we try to take him wherever we go.
Laura, thank you for breeding such incredible dogs.
Everything about Riley is absolutely perfect! People always come up to me and ask about him.
They comment on how beautiful he is and I have given your name to several people!
I continually fight with my groomer to keep the puppy cut.
She would rather shave him into a more poodle look but we say, "NO WAY!" We love the long hair.
He is our big hairy beast :) Anyway - I hope all is well. Enjoy the pictures of Hershey x Raven one year later.

Hi Bijou Poodles
I've been meaning to email you sooner to let you know how pleased we are with our new puppy (brown Male Java x Hershey).
When I opened his crate for the first time he leaped out and licked my face, so I don't think the flight bothered him too much.
He is adorable!!!! Smart...He's only had a few accidents in the house, so for the most part I would say that he is house trained.
I thought him how to "sit" in one day. I'm now working on" lay down", he's doing well but gets the two commands mixed up at times.
He responses to his name"Rémy" and to "come" when he wants to listen which is most of the time.
He's been to the vet and started puppy classes. He's the Star...Everybody loves him of course.
He sleeps by my bed side in his crate every night and has not made a fuss since day one.
In the day I leave him in a pen, an octagonal one. He may put up a fuss for a few minutes but then calms down after being ignored.
He's had his first sleep over at his aunts over the weekend when we were evacuated from our home due to a forest fire
In our community. Rémy was the perfect guest in a household of my two Himalayan/Persians and my sisters two
Himalayan/Persians and black domestic cat. 5 cats and a perfectly behaved Rémy.
We love him!!
Thank You first of all to you and then to Java girl for raising a perfect little puppy :) Great Job!!
PS: The only problem we're having right now is that he gets carried away with the bitting.
We try to replace our limps and Clothing with his toys but it seems to only aggravate him.
He goes from a level 4 to a level 8 of aggression fairly quick.
Is this normal with standard poodle puppies and do you have any advice to correct this behavior.
I don't know if we're doing something wrong. We were also wondering how Ruby is doing?

Hope all is going well.
Remy (brown male JavaxHershey) is settling in nicely.
Fia ((11 month black girl RavenxHershey) ignored him -and us- for a couple days.
She pouted. Now the two are inseparable. And of course Vinny won't leave him alone.
He's happy with his second playmate. Regan and Shane can't wait to get back home from CA to see him.
Remy is so very sweet but mischievous. He loves to sneak up on Fia and take a flying leap on her.
Then he runs to hide under the kitchen table so she can't get him.
She has learned to put him in place, though. They love to play rope tug together already.
He is much more laid back than Fia. She still follows me around everywhere.
He just picks his head up once and a while to see if we are around but doesn't mind any commotion.
The vet said he looked perfect. 11 lbs at exactly 8 weeks old.
(That's four pounds bigger than Fia was at the same time). So far no crate accidents.
Just a couple piddles here and there but he is catching on quickly.
He already comes when called by name and will sit upon command.
He eats like you would not believe. No issues again switching to Nature's Planet.
His little white patch is slowly disappearing and his coat is beautiful.
He is far more physically capable than she was at this stage. Up and down stairs without a problem.
We'll keep you updated. All our best
Lisa, Mario, Vinny, Shane, and Regan - Michigan

Just wanted to let you know that Watson (brown male Java x Hershey) is settling in nicely.
He is a very warm, confident, smart and secure little guy.
On the ride home, when he wasn't sleeping, he was looking out the window.
He has been doing that here as well. Is he mesmerized by the trees in the wind? Could be.
When meeting my two young adult kids (ages 15 and 18) for the first time, he trotted up with tail wagging
and moved right in for a welcoming puppy hello. When he is in his crate or play pen in the kitchen, he is not long to settle and sleep.
I have a very good feeling that he is the perfect puppy for us.
Thank you again for doing such a great job in breeding him! His temperament is excellent, and he is very willing to please, and such a beauty!
Will his front legs stretch out to be straight? I'll keep you posted from time to time.

It's only been four days, and I'm in love with "Greta" (Java x Hershey brown female)! She is amazing!
Our family is enjoying her so much! Everyone comments on how
beautiful she is and how calm and smart. Thank you for doing such a
great job in her first two months to love her up.
We'll keep you posted!

We are owners of two of your gorgeous puppies - Tia (Cream - Cocoa April 2005) and Toblerone (Brown - Cocoa and Hershey - November 2006).
Our son goes to school with Anton V. son here in Ottawa. His wife asked me today where we got our dogs so she might be contacting you for more information.
It looks like Cocoa might be due sometime soon. Do you have a planned chocolate litter on the way and when do you think the pups would be available?
I think they would prefer a chocolate male.
We are still absolutely loving our dogs! We have a three year old son now and they all play so well together.
Great family pets! Tobie, our male is HUGE but lovely!!!
Here's a cute pic of our two wonder dogs snuggling in the back seat of the truck on the way up to the cottage.
They are so close it's unbelievable. Tia cleans Tobie every morning - ears, eyes and even gets right into his mouth and licks his teeth clean!!
Quite the little mother! They are hilarious together...
Thanks,
Colleen Moore - Ottawa, Ontario

Well, after two sleepless nights, not because of "Quincy" (Java x Hershey brown boy), but because of my own hacking cough,
I am happy to be almost myself again and enjoying my little boy.
He is perfect in every way. Smart, friendly, handsome - great personality.
Everything we've waited so long for. He checked out just fine at the vet and after giving
everyone "puppy kisses", they thought he was delicious.
The name - we had a long list of names. Quite literally from A-Z.
And chose "Quincy" We even thought of "Brandford". But after meeting and getting to
know Silver Boy, that was just to formal. We called him by many of the perspective name choices,
and he just seemed most responsive to "Quincy".
It was interesting looking through his lineage chart.
Anyway, there really aren't too many great breeders breeding true brown standards -
that's why we picked you!
Anyway, potty training is going well. If there is an accident, it's been more my fault than his!
And he sleeps through the night in his crate! Samantha (our previous dog) never slept throught the night!
These are milestones I thought you might want to know about.
I promise to give you a break and let you get on with your other babie.
Be well and again, thanks for everything.

Light Blue collar brown boy from the Java/Hershey litter arrived full of spunk!
He had the Air Canada people ready to take him home with them!
We named him Louie after the french kings, because we know his lineage is regal
and he has already become the king of our home!!
We will send pictures soon.
Thanks for breeding such wonderful puppies!

Hi Bijou Poodles,
I hadn't looked at your website for awhile until today, and I have to say I got all excited all over again
because the videos of the newest pups brought back so many memoties.
As of now, Baako (brown male out of Raven x Hershey) weighs 53 1/2 lbs. at 10 months of age.
His coat is so curly that he looks like a Portugese Water Dog, but then he spends more time under the hose and sprinkler.
It's so interesting to watch him develop as the minute I turn the hose on to water the plants, he immediately runs back and forth trying to catch the spray.
Baako is in novice class still and will continue until he's ready for agility. I know he would absolutely love all the running & challenges.
He has 2 cousins that he runs with in my daughter's yard as our 10 year old, while healthy, isn't so playful anymore.
The only fault Baako has is that he's a digger...digs holes in the grass and in the rock areas.
I fill them up, re-seed, then he find other places to dig.
We try not to let him out without one of us being there, but sometimes we let him slip by us.
It doesn't take long for him to "do his thing". I guess that means he bored!
Other than that, he's stupendous!!! He's exceptionally smart, barks very little except to go out,
and he has his own way of talking in a very horse deep voice that sounds like he saying "I love you"!
Then I say "I wuv you" back, and so the conversation goes...
Because he's so dark in color, it's extremely hard to get good pictures of him,
but I will keep trying and update your collection (like you need more photos, eh?)!
Glad things are going well with you. I see your providing the best pups all over the U.S. That's great.
I know we are always pushing you as one of the best breeders.
Hope all is well with you and your family.
Fondly,
Sandy & Marv Gladstone - New Mexico

I just wanted to give you an update on our wonderful, beautiful puppy, Rommie.
She is absolutely the best thing that has happened to us in a long time. She's just growing sooooo fast :)
It only took a few weeks to housetrain her and already, she knows and responds to several commands.....no, sit, down, and come.
She is so very, very smart :)
She loves to run and play outdoors and like a little child, runs through every single water puddle that she can find :)
She probably has almost as many toys lying around the house as our kids use to have.
She sleeps on the bed with us every night....we have a queen size bed but are thinking about going out to buy a king size LOL
We're out of town right now and I don't have access to my desktop computer where
I have all my pictures, but I'll email one to you as soon as I can.
Again, thank you so much for her. I haven't laughed this much ever since the kids and grandkids moved away.

I was just looking at your website and saw all the lovely puppies.
I was thinking how lucky their new owners will be, based on how happy our two
boys have made our family. Just to remind you, Richard, Ricky, Claire and I
showed up to bring home Onyx (black boy, red collar HersheyXRaven Jul'07)
and surprised the kids by picking up Jasper, too (brown boy, red collar).
Raven x Hershey Litter
Well, anytime you have two babies at once, it is exciting! We have come
through everything (house breaking, leash training, car manners, vet visits)
and looking back it has been very easy. The boyos are so smart and their
temperment is so sweet. All the kids on the street love the boys, and on
more then one occasion we've had the doorbell ring to find a few little kids
on our doorstep calling on Jasper and Onyx.
Jasper last weighed in at 60lbs and Onyx is 54lbs. They are still growing
and eating well. Onyx has developed a gorgeous thick poodle coat - so black
he is almost blue. We decided to clip a little higher around the eyes so we
can see his expressions! Who knew poodles could make so many faces! Jasper's
coat has not filled out like his brother, but his colour, temperment and
glorious golden brown eyes are a joy to behold.
I just wanted to send along this thank you, especially on Mother's Day, as a
little piece of you goes home with all your lovely poodle babies! We
appreciate it! Thank you again!

"Molly" brown Female (Cocoa x Hershey) is the best dog ever and she is no longer a dog but a part of our family lol
she is so funny and sweet we just cant get enough of her and we are so thankful that we waited to get her from you.
Molly is Janelle's baby (our 14yr old) she is the individual that has been keeping you updated with photo's and information.
The entire family enjoys and loves Molly. She has become a member of the family.
Her personality is much like Janelle's. Daintiness is not one of her characteristics at this time,
she is very clumsy, which makes her even more adorable.
I call her messy Moll, when she eats and drinks it is everywhere.
Janelle will continue to keep pictures coming your way. We jump on your website frequently to check out the new babies.
They are beautiful. Have a great day and thanks again for the wonderful addition to our family.
Sincerely,
Janelle & Shannon Y.

Hello
I thought I would send you a quick update at "Barnes" (Hershey x Raven) black male 10 weeks.
Our little shark is learning sit, stay, down and especially shake a paw in the place of chew your hand.
Crate training is going well. We have a very large heavy duty cage from our late dane,
which put a duvet cover over to make a den.
I put the travel kennel at the back of the cage and Barnes' mat in front
and he sleeps and eats and rests there if were not in the kitchen.
He hangs out in my room sleeping or playing while I work.
He rests while I eat and then he gets his dinner. Its working out.
He walks well on the leash and has visited the vet twice. And travels VERY well in his crate.
Barnes is filling out and his legs and hair are growing fast.
Toe clipping and hair trimming around his eyes and private part are getting done by me.
We are learning manners and how not to pull hair out of our cat ;-)
We are getting along better now as he sleeps mostly through the night from 11pm to 5:30am which is when we wake up.
Oh thank goodness the 3am's are over for the most part.
See attached picture. Bob our cat always had the top bunk so Barnes has the bottom ;-)
Take care.

I see on the website that Java and Hershey are about to have puppies and that you are keeping a female.
I just want to say that my puppy, Kodi (brown male), from their last litter is amazing.
Right on the money and I will try and take a good picture this weekend which shows you how gorgeous he is.
Trouble is the deep dark brown doesn't come out so well in my pictures but I will come up with something.
He is 7 months old and about 75 plus pounds (waiting for next visit to vet where he can step onto scale w/o me lifting him on mine)
and stands around 27 inches (ground to torso) high.
I think he will be heavier since he has such puppy legs and huge dinosaur sized paws.....
A little lighter brown around the nose but not much and wild and crazy hazel eyes.....Really rich texture coat.
Anyone who gets one of their puppies will be fortunate in ways they can't even imagine or forsee.
He is a magnet for my family and for anyone who comes in contact with him.
Big, large, lovable, intelligent, beautiful, wanting to please and think for himself, great sense of humor,
sensitive, game for anything except being left out-- who could ask for anything more?
Always an honorable challenge to make sure I keep up with him.
Good luck with the birthing and developing and meeting and greeting and have a glass of champage to celebrate.

April 10, 2008
I have never kept in touch but thought you might like to know how fabulously our dog has come along.
Hershey's Kiss was out of K'Lars Hot Cocoa by K-Lar's Hershey Wins Again. He was born October 20, 2003.
We are still in London and Hershey and I have been doing dog agility at the Middlesex Dog Agility Club for the past year and a half.
He is a wonderful companion and has a terrific disposition. Not a day goes by that someone doesn't compliment us on his looks and behaviour.
He goes canoe tripping, cross country skiing, cycling, snowshoeing, etc. etc. He loves trips up to Owen Sound where he hikes the Bruce Trail with my folks.
We were snowbound on the way to their place last winter and we stayed in a hotel.
He was a wonderful ambassador for dogs. He never did grow to like his crate though we stuck to your recommended regimen.
He would salivate to the point of dripping wet towels and blankets whenever he was left in it fro any length of time
so by the time he was about eight months old we gave it up. He is very well behaved even when left alone at other people's homes.
We just got back from seeing Dr. Staples for his yearly check up. He weighs 54lbs
and is in remarkable shape with excellent conformation and beautiful fluffy brown hair.
I will try to attach some photos for you. He does seem to have a nervous stomach and we now have him on Gastro formula from the vet's.
At least it doesn't stain the carpet. We took him to obedience classes the first year we had him and we let my daughter be the handler
since we figured the smallest person in the house had to be able to control him.
The guy said they were the best advertisement for gentle leader he had ever seen.
The dog and the handler were exactly the same size. I injured my shoulder a couple of years ago so we still use the gentle leader
when on walks in Springbank and our neighbourhood but he can be let go when out hiking and never strays too far.
I have given your contact information to so many people over the years who wanted poodles.
I can't imagine being any happier than we are with our choice.
Thank you so much for taking time to breed such terrific dogs.

Hi Bijou Poodles,
Sorry it has been so long since we've last emailed but life has been
busy.
Just wanted to send you a couple quick updates and let you know
we
are setting up a family poodle website for you
and other interested
parties
to look at.
Feel free to use any of these pics in the meantime and to
"edit" my longwinded stories.
I'm sending you three different emails.
We have Fia (blk girl
ravenxhershey July 30, 2007).
Just to refresh - We're the ones who invaded
your house
with 3 kids for a day after our van broke down and you were
so
kind to rescue us off the freeway, LOL.
These pictures are of Vinny (3
yrs
old) and his canine best friend.
The two are inseparable litter mates
it
seems.
They spend all day chasing eachother, playing. And although
they
continually roughhouse,
Fia is so gentle and seems to know just how far
to
"play" without hurting him.
As you can see we keep her very natural looking.
I clip her face,
paws, and bum area about every 6 weeks myself and am getting quite good
at
the grooming thing.
Since we have decided to keep her hair long I do
have
to comb
through her ever 4 days or so to keep her matt free but she is
so
good. She is bathed about every 4 weeks.
We have kept her on the Nature's Planet dog food and it wonderful.
She also get salmon skin once a week (on
the advice of our vet) and her coat is so silky and soft.
Temper and personality update - she is awesome! When inside (and
not being chased by Vinny) she is so calm and content to sit or lie by
us.
She loves to "talk" to me in the morning - never heard anything like
it.
What a hoot.
Outside she is an energetic clown. Loves to jump, run,
play
in the leaves and snow, and is behaving very well on our walks.
Our
biggest
challenge to date is teaching her a little restraint in meeting new
people
because in or out of the house she loves to greet by jumping up and
wagging
her tail.
She loves kids. We had 9 adults and 10 kids at our house on
Christmas for dinner and gifts
and there was not one instance of trying to
jump on the tables and she sat in the middle of the floor
while all the
kids
threw their wrapping paper on top of her.
She loved it. She loves to ride in the car and we take her everywhere.
She was house broken by about 11/12 weeks and she slept in the crate
at night until about a month ago.
Somehow the crate got left unlatched one
night and I was greeted by a very happy poodle in the morning.
After
searching the house for "accidents" and not finding a thing except a
pleased
poodle, she is crate free - even when we leave the house.
What a good
girl.
She never had any teething issues.
We gave her plenty of bones and
chewy
toys and she has never once touched one of the hundred toddler toys
left on
the floor.
Now if only Vinny were that well behaved - ha!
We do love her and my husband, the non-dog guy, well she spends every
evening in his lap on the couch. He's converted.
I look at your website constantly since we are looking forward to
adding a
second in the next year.
I think a JavaxHershey or RazzxRuby. Can't
wait.
Okay, signing off for now and forwarding more pics.
Love, Lisa Iaquinta and family - MI

Brown Male pictured at 7 months and 50 lbs out of Raven x Hershey.
I can't tell you how shocked I was when we picked Baako up from from his 1st grooming!
Where did our puppy go? We now had a full-grown acting "man"!
I think he knew he looked different as his personality seemed so refined.
The groomer said that she has never seen such a dark chocolate color like his &
that he was a perfect gentleman during the whole process.
Every time I look at him I get a chill as he's so smart & so loving.
He's out of the crate at night but we still put him in the playpen during the day when we leave the house.
You did good!!!
Fondly,
Sandy Gladstone - Albuquerque, NM
Hi Bijou Poodles ,
January 23, 2008
Just a quick note to update you about Molly (brown Female Hershey x Cocoa). She is doing really well .
When we came home , the Yorkie was in the backyard and Molly exploded with delight when she saw him .
My cat was a bit nervous and Molly went up to her very slowly and sniffed noses .
She is giving the cat some space and as a result the cat seems to like her .
The vet saw her yesterday and just loved her . He checked her all over and said she's absolutely perfect . Of course , we already knew that !
She bounces around the backyard like a kangaroo and is fun to watch . Got several toys for her and we're having fun .
I'm following your crate training guidelines to a "T" and I'm absolutely amazed at how great this works .
Only wish I'd had that info about 3 dogs ago . She is booked in for puppy training classes at Pawsitive Puppies starting Feb 13 .
All the best ,
Susan - Ontario

Hi Bijou Poodles
I have been meaning to send you a message forever- sorry it has
taken so long.
Jeff and I are absolutely loving our new puppy
dog-Hershey- who is growing way to fast.
(Raven/hershey litter July 07) She has been the easiest puppy - well behaved and lots of fun-
thank-you so much- I've passed your e-mail address on to some other interested people.
I'm sending a picture attached- hope you get it.
sincerely,
Janice Van W. and Jeff T.

Hi Bijou Poodles,
Believe it or not, you have been on my mind.
Merry Xmas to you & your family
also & we hope that the new year brings good health & peace.
As for where we met Baako's (Raven x Hershey brown male) plane, remember I flew to Seattle & met Air Canada
there.
I think Phoenix is an option now that the weather is colder, but
you'd have to check that one out to make sure.
As for Baako, he's about 40
pounds now and is simply gorgeous, loving, sweet, devilish, inquisitive &
absolutely loves every person & dog!
We have him signed up for puppy class in
February because we'll be in & out of town during January & would
miss a couple of classes if he enrolled then.
He loves his walks, retrieves a
thrown ball, & is great with commands. the cutest is when he sits up for
a treat!
He has not had a 1st haircut yet as I love his beary look. I've trimmed
the long baby fur so that the curls are finally coming in thick.
I keep trying
to take pictures of him but he's so dark that they just don't come out. I've attached
one picture & am sending another separately via internet.
I do check your website periodically out of curiousity. I love looking at all the new
puppies. You do an amazing job, Laura!
Will keep in touch...I promise!

I thought you would like an update on a dog we purchased from you. Beau is almost a year old.
We just adore our puppy Beau Black male (Hershey x Raven ) DOB Dec.19 2006
I am attaching a photo of Beau with Santa taken this week.
Beau is a very handsome dog. He has a wonderful temperament and is not at all dominant.
He is very good at sharing his toys etc with his three dog cousins. He now has his beautiful jet black curly coat .
Beau has had no health problems.
He's so smart! Very intelligent, Completed obedience School at 5 months of age.
He loves to cuddle on the couch and go for a nap with mommy in her bed..
Beau still wants to sit on my knee his Weight 57 lbs.
Beau loves all his toys especially the squeaky ones
He has frequent "play days" with his lab cousin Molly and they frollick and play for hours on end.
Molly is a few months younger but clearly she is the "dog boss".
Beau is a very sociable dog and really enjoys people company.
He gets so excited when the door bell rings signalling a visitor--a visitor that surely must be coming to see him!!
We have discovered Beau is also a good traveller. Last March we took him on a road trip to California.
He travelled well with no problems whatsoever! This will come in handy when I retire next year!!
We look forward to many happy years ahead with Beau.
Merry Christmas and all the best for 2008!

I must tell you we just adore our puppy! (Hershey x Raven black male) He's so sweet tempered and smart!
We just had a family Thanksgiving dinner with 11 people and he was perfect! No begging, no wildness.
He was a perfect gentleman and earned himself an invitation to the family Christmas party at my sister-in-law's house! Everyone loved him.
I'll send a photo so you can see him. My husband who never owned a dog in his life adores the dog most of all.
He even takes him to the bank where all the tellers are very fond of him!
Our secret to a happy dog is that he has a "best friend," a cockapoo, across the street and they wear each other out with a daily play time every morning for an hour!
We also like to leave the Animal Planet channel on when we're not home so he can watch TV!
He was completely housetrained by two months and now has the run of the house when we're home.
Hope things are good with you.

Hi Bijou Standard Poodles,
We would like to place a deposit on a red female puppy from Razz-Ruby.
It was exciting to check the website today and see the breeding information posted.
We are the proud parents of Ginger, a black standard female that we purchased from you almost three years ago.
After having such a wonderful experience with Ginger, we are looking forward to adding a new puppy to our family.
Our children are now six and nine years old and continue to be very involved with Ginger on a daily basis.
We are all excited about the joy a new puppy will bring!
Please respond at your earliest convenience with mailing information for the deposit amount.
We will get it out to you immediately to ensure our choice of a red female puppy.
Thank you,
Leslie P.

Hi Bijou Standard Poodles,
I apologize for not writing sooner but life in this house right now is very busy.
We've names our puppy K-Lar's Baako of Baker's Dozen (brown male out of Raven x Hershey) & now a bit over 9 pounds since we visited the vet.
She was impressed with his good health but suggested we switch food because she would like to improve his coat.
After much deliberation, we are slowly switching him to Eagle Pack Puppy formula (Holistic food), which he seems to like,
but then he likes anything you put in his bowl. He's now sleeping 5 hours during the night,
plays in his playpen during the day, but most of all he loves romping in the back yard & chasing the water coming from the hose! He is turning into a personality-kid,
but still loves to cuddle with everyone he meets! We've begun socializing & is ooed & awed
by everyone who sees him. The quiet one has become very outgoing.
He speaks his mind & when he really wants attention, he howls like a cat in a very dee p voice.
Our other dog, Kezia, seemed quiet excited about Baako's arrival, then began to show his alpha personality (hiding or running away).
We take them both when we do go somewhere & Kezia is slowly realizing that his brother is here to stay.
We truly are having such fun training Baako to sit & he now knows what to do.
He also fetches & brings back the toy when we throw it.
His few tricks really amaze us as he is so young but SO smart! We love him!
Attached are a few photos taken after his arrival but I will update you periodically as he grows.
Fondly,
Sandy & Marv G - Albuquerque,NM

Hi Bijou Poodles,
Thought I’d drop you a quick hello and update.
Fia (black female peach collar from Raven x Hershey) is just wonderful.
Except for taking her right to her “pee/poo” area immediately, the first night home we threw out all the rules.
Mario said “Oh, just bring her into bed” because she was crying so much in the crate which was in our room.
Then we decided to make use of the pen in the kitchen/family room area and that’s where she stays.
She didn’t want to sleep in our room - she wanted to be downstairs in the pen.
She has barely cried at night only for about two minutes each time at the beginning and nothing for the past two nights.
In fact last night she went out to pee at 9:00, we went to bed, got her up at 1:30 to go out again, and then she slept until 6:00.
Not a peep otherwise. We have had minimal accidents in the house and only cause I was too busy with Vinny to notice.
I’ll have to train myself better-ha!
And has she got personality. She is completely confident.
Not afraid of the lawnmower, cars, the nail gun Mario used to put up molding, the compresser in the garage,
or Vinny who runs around like a wild man dropping toys all over. She doesn’t flinch.
When she’s tired of the commotion she goes and lies down in the pen on her own. She loves the hard cold floors, does not like the soft dog bed whatsoever.
She loves to chase a ball, play with the rope tug, and she hunts and pounces everything outside.
BUT, the funniest thing she does is somersaults. OMG, she knows she’s funny and if the grass is wet she loves it even better.
She comes when called, knows to go to the back door when you say “go outside”, and sits on command almost every time.
She hates doggie treats, won’t eat any kind. Loves the new kibble (Nature’s Planet) that I’ve been combining
with the food you gave us. No problem switching, hard stools. Seems to train easily with lots of praise and kisses.
Vet said she looked great. (7 lbs 14 oz) Had her first vaccinations.
Loves to ride in the car with me to take and pick up Regan at school. She and Vinny were made for each other. They run round and round together. Mario lets her up on the couch – I would have never believed it.
Will send you more pictures later. And even though I am exhausted getting used to a new little one’s schedule we just love her.
Talk to you soon.

Hi Bijou Poodles,
I hope you are well. Benson (brown male out of Cocoa x Hershey) had his appointment with his vet last Friday. He did very well.
The vet was very impressed and wanted me to contact you and tell you so. She was very impressed with the puppy portfolio(pedigree, health record etc.) She was fascinated by his color and took pictures of him for her bulletin board( for possible future owners).
He weighed 5 kg. Benson is such a cutie. He has a great personality and is so smart. He understands “hurry hurry and get busy already and he sits very well.
He is now getting use to his crate at night with not too much crying but he absolutely hates being in his crate during the day if he sees me around. I need to get him use to the crate during the day also so he can go and not be under foot.
I’ve read all the info on crating and I’m sure with time he’ll get use to it.
He doesn’t eat very much Laura and takes a long time to eat. He eats less than 2/3 of a cup per meal 3 times per day and eats the kibble mainly from the floor.
This morning he vomited bright yellow vomitus but had a normal stool. He has not vomited for the past hour and ate most of his breakfast.
I will watch him very closely and will call the vet if this persists but is this something that they occasionally do.
We have had problems taking pictures of him with the digital camera but I have some good pictures with my trustworthy 35 mm camera.
Bye for now,

Bijou Poodles,
I want to let you know that Noa (Brown Female Pink Collar) Hershey x Cocoa is doing fine, great in fact.
She has quickly taken to the backyard already culling the plants she doesn't like, seems to think I have another dog - the reflection in the sliding closet door mirror
- and slept quietly through the night in her crate last night. She is a joy and extremely affectionate.
We have an appointment at 'The Animal Clinic' down the street for her shots on July 6, 2007.
Thank-you for breeding such a wonderful puppy, more/photos soon,

Bijou Poodles
I'd like to thank you again for such a wonderful and smart puppy! (Brown Male Green Collar out of Hershey x Cocoa).
He's
such a cutie, no accidents, and he already knows how to sit and come
(for treats of course).
Right now he's attacking a giant stuffed cow
pillow I put on the ground for him and he's very determined to drag it
around!
We took him to the vet on Friday, and the vet said that he appeard very
healthy but a little skinny, so I'm feeding him 3-4 times a day.
He
loves the raw diet, he usually finishes the half a cup within 15 minutes.
He's a very peaceful sleeper (as long as he's not in the kennel).
Oh, the website for his raw food is www.theultimatediet.com, there are
a list of retailers in Ontario on the site. The other 2 main raw foods
are "Nature's Variety" and "Healthy Paws" they both also have websites
(but I'm not sure what they are).
There are some other raw diets, but
from the research I've done, these are the top 3, with "The Ultimate
Diet" being a little superior.
Other than that, he's quite the clown, and quite the suck, we just love
him !(he's quite the little humper too!)
Thank you again!

Just a quick note to say the boys are doing well. Cole is 9 years old this month and Thomas (brown male we got from you) is 2 1/2.
Thomas has turned into a good little guy, we love him. He and Cole are very close (which is really nice).
Thought you would enjoy some pics of the 2 ding bats. Thomas has fnished off at about 56 pounds.
He is about 3 inches tall than Cole, but Cole is much thicker.
I wanted to ask you, I check your website about once a month (give or take) and I noticed you say you are in Hamilton??
Did you move?
Does that mean we'll have to name our next boy "hamilton"?

"Beau" -Brown Standard Poodle Male
@ 18 months of age
June 3, 2007
Hi,
Beau's mother was Raven and his sire was Hershey, he was born August 9, 2005.
I know I am prejudice, but I will tell you that so are his vet, and his groomer.
Melissa, who grooms him, and I have such fun and so does Beau. We put him in various
cuts depending on the season. He is back to the Miami cut now because of the heat,
but the Town and Country looks awesome. He enjoys it too.
He watches in the mirror as he is groomed and can he prance when it is over.
Just to let you know that a couple of people may be getting in touch with you.
The secretary at the vet's office has a five year old standard
and is very impressed with Beau and asked for your web site and your email.
The loan officer at my bank also asked.
It was too hot to leave Beau in the car so we took him in the bank with us
where he sat right by Peter in the waiting area being a perfect gentleman as usual.
When the loan manager came out to speak to Peter it was not about taking Beau back outside,
but asked about what kind of dog and then wanted your info.
My friend Cathie K. is also completely taken with her black standard she recieved from you.
When we are on the phone together you would think we were talking about our children......I guess we really are.
Thank you so much for breeding wonderful dogs.
Kay Suttie - Ontario, Canada

Beaumont (brown male) now has an acre to run around on.
He has been a wonderful addition to our family with much loyalty,
attentiveness, energy, greagariousness and silliness.
When he gets out during the day, he ALWAYS gets at least one positive comment
about his looks or demeanor. What wonderful genetics.
Thank you ! We have spoken of you often.

I thought it was about time I dropped you a line to let you know how well things are going!!!
Levi (brown male out of Raven x Hershey) is now 19 weeks old! My,....How time flies! I think it is safe to say he is fully potty trained....except for occasional "excited" piddles...which is normal! He has been fully potty trained for a few weeks now....whew! I can't believe how much a new puppy is EXACTLY like having a new baby in the home. We didn't crate train him. If you remember...in the beginning we gave into the whinning and gated him into a room,....so needless to say....I was getting up at 3:00 am every evening....for potty breaks. Those are done now and we have a regular schedule again!
He learned sit, stay and shake a paw at a very early age! He lost his first tooth and started obedience school yesterday. An exciting day! Levi is a VERY personable dog! He LOVES people and always wants to show his affection to everyone he sees. So yesterday at school.....he wanted to play with everyone! But he learns very quickly....and by the end of the first class we already saw a huge improvement! We still have 7 more weeks of training...and know that our already "perfect" dog....will be even more perfect (if there is such a thing...LOL!).
If you can remember...we had allergies in the house, therefor this is our first dog ever. We had very little reaction from Levi....and is very safe to say...he's here to Stay...YEAH! We couldn't have picked a better a dog as first time dog owners!.......I can't think of one complaint! I had 20+ kids here on Saturday for a birthday party plus several adults...and then even more adults in the evening.....and I couldn't have expected any better from him! He was very excited at first (expected)....but settled in and behaved very well for the rest of the day! I have heard many nightmare stories from other people and their puppies...and was worried of what I might have gotten myself into. But I have no bad experiences to share....and couldn't imagine life without Levi now!
He weighs 35+ pounds and approx. 19 " tall currently and the vet expects him to be 70+ pounds at full grown. I don't know how many times I am stopped to be asked, " what kind of dog is that?", ....and when I tell them " Standard Poodle"...the reactions are hilarious! The reactions vary from, "he's gonna be Huge!" and " Look at the size of his paws!", "I didn't know standard poodles would get that big!". A Lot of people confuse him with either goldendoodles or portugese water retrievers. He is a beautiful dog! Everyday is something new, and I find it very uplifting to be around him. It is hard to ever be in a bad mood when Levi is around!
I am including some photos for you!....Did you have luck in placing the other puppies in homes? Also,..I am very curious on your opinion of his size at this stage....wondering if he's at your average growth rate compared to your other puppies? A lOT of people are amazed at his size!
Again thanks so much for our new family member! He's the greatest!

Hi Bijou Poodles
Betty (Hershey x Raven brown female) sat still!
I thought you might like a photo of our pup after her first haircut…
actually it is about one week after and her fur had returned to normal.
I will remember to ask the groomer not to fluff her up next time; we like our poodle tidy but natural.
April 16, 2007
"Betty" (brown female Raven x Hershey) has settled in very well! We were all amazed with her ease of transition to her new home. Just three days after her arrival we had several people over to celebrate St. Patricks Day; her calm behaviour impressed everyone and even converted a few poodle sceptical people into poodle fans! Most importantly she adores our son. Her tail can not wag fast enough when she sees him.
We have been having some trouble getting good photographs of her. Either she will not sit still or it is too dark or you can not see her eyes… we will get one eventually and send it too you.
In the meantime, I have seen reference to boarding on your website. We are planning a family vacation and are looking for a safe, responsible place to leave Betty. Would you be able to provide boarding for her or do you know of someone else in the Hamilton area?
Please email me at work (this address) when you have a chance. Looking forward to hearing from you!

"Poookie" (Blue collar dark brown boy) out of "Hershey x Raven" has been the most amazing dog! He is sweet,
intelligent, loving, and super curious. He also is weighing in at

Dear Bijou Standard Poodles,
It is exactly three months to the day that we brought Sacha (brown male) home with
us, so it is about time that we sent you an update. He is 6 months old
and weighs 45 pounds. His coat is a beautiful red-brown, and he turns
heads wherever he goes. In fact, it is a little difficult for us to
walk with him in crowded places because people are constantly stopping us
to coo over him! It seems like we have had him forever though it has
only been three months. We found out very early that Sacha doesn’t want
to hang out in a crate, so since his first night he has slept at the
foot of our bed and never once had an accident or gotten into trouble.
When we need to leave him alone in the house he just hangs out, and he has
never once chewed anything other than his toys or had any kind of an
accident.
Overall, he seems a bit shy but he is slowly coming out of his shell.
He looks forward to greeting other dogs when he is out on his walks and
is getting more playful with his poodle play group. He plays with
three other standards and a golden doodle at a local conservation area
where they can run around and go swimming. He’s the youngest of the group,
so he is still finding his place with the bigger dogs — Samson, Fozzy,
Pete, and Abby — and when he needs comfort or a rest he plays with the
elderly miniature poodle, Zoe.
As you may remember, I had a black standard a few years ago who died
suddenly when he was only four years old; I wanted a brown so that I
wouldn’t be reminded of my precious Simon. Sacha is really nothing like
Simon, who was sweet-natured and wild and kind of crazy, but very loveable
nonetheless. Sacha is calm, playful but a bit shy, intelligent, and
highly trainable and very loving in a reserved, adorable way. We love him
so much and he has already brought immense joy into our lives. We look
forward to getting to know him as he continues to mature and change. We
have a park across the street where he loves to run around and play
fetch, especially with his Frisbee. He starts obedience lessons this
month in order to work on his leash training, but he is generally very
eager to please and has had no problem learning all the basic commands. He
loves going to the cottage and splashing around on the shore, and
pouncing after moths at night. We are looking forward to all the great hikes
we can go on this autumn, and I have a hunch that Sacha will really
enjoy the snow when it arrives. Thank you so much for this beautiful,
intelligent, loving companion; he is the perfect dog for us. We have one
question. When will Sacha reach his mature size and is there any way to
guess how big he will be?
Best, Lisa

"KC" at camp, with basketball, on beach
June 19, 2006
I hope all is going well with you. Did you manage to get all your pups
sold? Just wanted to give you an update on our pup and I have a few
questions. We named him Kaycey or KC (Brown Male) written short form.
We had a heck of a time coming up with a name for him but when we
settled for KC he really responded so we kept it. He is house trained
now. No accidents for a couple of weeks. I trained him to ring a bell
when he wants to go outside and he does. He's been going up and down
stairs for awhile now and follows me (or whoever) everywhere. He was
sleeping in a crate in our room but it got too small so we moved him
into our closet with a gate across. Lots of room now and he doesn't
mind. Mind you he'd rather sleep with us, which he does (with Carl)
when Carl takes him to camp.
He
can sit on command and we are working on down. I haven't had a chance
to take him to obedience class but that will happen in June when
classes start. I took him to a groomer on Monday and now he really
looks like a poodle, in fact we couldn't believe it was the same dog
when he came back from the spa because now he seems to be more graceful
or should I say not so clumsy. KC gets his rabies on Monday but has had
all other shots. Because he didn't feel well after his last boosters
the vet didn't want to give him boosters and rabies so she will stagger
them. He's a real nice dog and we thank you for him.
Some questions: when I have him out walking every time he sees someone
he starts to bark. I've tried getting him not to by asking (QUIET), by
jerking on his collar and asking, by asking and putting my hand over
his mouth, by asking and giving him the sit command. Nothing seems to
work. Any suggestions or should I just continue to expose him to
different people and keep up the commands?
Also when he first goes in his crate he barks. I've tried spraying him
with water and giving the quiet command but he just continues. He's
starting to settle down, takes about 5 minutes, but at the first he
just kept it up for hours (or so it seemed). Will he eventually settle
and not bark when he goes in his crate or should I somehow try to make
him as soon as he starts up? I've tried spraying him with water but his
barking just intensifies, in fact I expect him to open his mouth and
ask me if I could please direct it there. I never take him out of the
crate unless he settles.
Dog really needs to get to class and I suspect as he grows and learns
more about what is expected of him these little annoyances (hopefully)
will eventually stop.
Anyway, I hope all the pups have found good homes. You can rest assured
that KC has. Will send some pics if you like. Just let me know.
Cheers,
Katherine N.

How have you been? I'm so happy with Brownie and Mocha. I went to the
Veterinary Hospital when they arrived in Korea. There was nothing the
matter with them. And they play well and eat well here. I worried about
if they would
understand when i speak Korea. But They understand Korean very well.
Don't worry. I have not scanner at home. I'll send a pictures later.
Thank you again,

Pictures coming soon
I have been lax about keeping you posted on Ybonne (black male), he is
doing great, he is finally house broken, He was actually house broken
BEFORE we were... but finally I realized that when he sat and barked at
me that he wanted out, since then there has not been a single
accident... I was waiting for him to scratch on the door or something,
he doesn't do that, he will go to the door and whine if I am sitting at
my puter as it is next to the door, otherwise he just finds me and
barks at me.
He took his first long trip in the car (an hour) since coming from the
airport, and then he had his first weekend in the motorhome.. no
accidents there either. He goes every other Wednesday to get groomed
and gets clipped and shaved like a poodle about once a month. He is 3
and a half months old now and weighs 26 pounds and was neutered last
thrusday.
He sits, shakes hands, lays down and fetches on command and is learning
to beg, he does NOT want to learn roll over, I am going to have to work
on that, but he does all the others really well. He is going into his
"gentle leader" collar thingy tomorrow, I put it on him once before and
he hated it, but it is going to have to go on him and stay on him now,
he just pulls on the leash and collar till he is choking himself and
the trainer says put him in it and he will learn to walk without
choking himself... he just wants to play.
We have had only one concern with him, he likes to bite. It is not
biting in meanness, it is in play but hurts never the less, he is
getting better about it as he is getting older, but he will just jump
up and grab my hand or clothes in his mouth and he has put rips in a
couple of my old things, and one nice dress, but I should have known
better and changed before I took him out. I am hoping the gentle leader
will help with that too. Have you ever had this problem? If so and you
have any suggestions for me to do things differently please let me
know. Otherwise, when we start working with the trainer, I am sure she
will have some suggestions. I was just wondering if this is a normal
poodle type trait.
Well, that is about all the news from Florida, we adore him and he
loves us too. I will try to send you a picture when we take some.
UPDATE: September 28, 2006
I hope you remember me, I bought Ybonne (February 9th, 2005 litter
black male, blue ribbon) from you and you shipped him to Orlando, FL to
us... Well we are just pleased as punch with him, he is very smart and
doing just terrific. I will try to send you a picture of him one of
these days... we have not figured out how to get the digital camera to
down load to the new puter yet. I will work on that...LOL
His trainer says to tell you that he is just a great dog. I have one
question, he slobbers a lot when he runs around in the yard... it is
hot here and we are figuring that he was bred in the colder climates of
Canada and that it may take a year or so for him to acclimate... what
do you think? We are not worried about it, it doesn't seem to bother
him and we make sure he has plenty of water and we take him in and out
of the house every few minutes so he can cool off.
He is really doing well in his agility, he goes over the A frame, walks
up and across the board and down it, he does the baby jumps and he just
seems to really enjoy it. We will start him on the tunnel soon, his
trainer is not rushing him, she says there are just things that he has
to wait till he is more mature to learn.
I thought you would enjoy hearing about him and his life down here, he
loves me and Tom a lot, I bake him cookies made out of liver and he
will do anything for them... he sits, begs, shakes his paw with you,
lays down
goes and gets on his couch and gets on his bed all on command, he comes
when you tell him to unless he is busy doing anything else... we are
working on his recall now... he is not working too hard on it, but we
sure are!! He loves chasing birds, butterflies and rabbits, we
discourage the rabbit chasing, for fear he will actually get one.... LOL
Well, you take care, I will write you again and send a picture.
Thanks for such a wonderful companion for me,
Catherine - Florida

Hi Bijou Standard Poodles
I wanted to
give you a little update on Marley's (Brown Male)progress since he came to live
with us.
We just adore this little guy. He is the most loving and sweet
animal. Very attached to me. He loves Phil too but he knows
where supper comes from. I just had him to the vet for his final set
of shots last Fri. He is now 14.5lbs and approximately 15 inches
to the shoulder at 13 weeks old. I was told by the vet that he may
be a little smaller than his parents which suits us just fine. I'm not
convinced that he won't surprise us all and grow to be as big as his
dad (Hershey).
We started obedience classes at 10 weeks and although he's the
youngest dog there he is one of the best!! It's as though he
naturally understands what to do. He can heel very well, sit, stay,
down-stay while I leave the room, give paw, fetch and speak on
command. He was doing most of this before I even enrolled him in
class! The instructor uses choke collars but I don't care for them
and don't have to use one to train him. I bought a Martindale just in
case but I rarely use it. Sometimes he needs a little reminder to
pay attention as he is still very young. I can teach him to do just
about anything in minutes. Just this past Sunday I introduced a
bell that I've hung by the back door. I want him to ring it to
indicate that he has to pee. It took me a couple of really big
"praises" but he caught on in a couple of hours and now he rings it
every time he needs to go. I can't say enough about how smart he
is.
The weather here on Prince Edward Island has been so strange
this year. I was able to introduce Marley to the beach in January!!
He had the best time digging and running. He wimpered when we
left which was very cute. We live 5 minutes from the shore so it's a
short distance to to let him play. He is going to be a great water-
dog as he's already checking it out.
I have yet to see a brown standard poodle here on the Island.
Everyone who meets him thinks he so beautiful but because I don't
shave his face they aren't quite sure what breed he is. When I tell
them they can't believe it. They never knew a poodle could look
like him. I've been getting quite a bit of grief from other poodle
owners because I don't want to shave his face. I have since cut it a
little closer but I like hair on the face even though it's not
traditional.
I'm sure we will have him in lots of styles in the years to come.
Anyway, thanks so much for breeding these wonderful dogs. He is
such a fan with everyone here at the vet college. The vets love him
the students gush over him and I'm as proud as can be that he's
mine! Here are some pics.
Take care,

Dear Bijou Standard Poodles,
I am sorry for taking so long to write to thank you for my wonderful
friend Mister Mocha Mikka (Brown male born September 11, 2005). I love him. It
was a year in October since he arrived and every day since then I feel
it is an honour and a privilege to have him as part of my family. Mr.
Mikka is just so special. Not only is he smart and sensitive but he is
also a tease. He has a wonderful sense of humor and is loving as well.
This is truly a dog with no issues.
I called him Mikka because I had been doing a project in Romania for the
past few years and "mica" in Romanian means small (as you may recall he
was the small male of the litter). Well, indeed he didn't stay small for
very long. He turned out to be tall, svelte, and a very very handsome
boy. He weighs 23 kilos.
Mikka has such a large fan club with my dog walking friends. Many of
these friends call to find out what time we will be walking so that
their dogs can be with Mikka. He loves to play with his friends (big
and small) and does so always with good humour and tirelessly of course.
And what an athlete he is. He just loves to run. We walk twice a day for
about an hour each time and it is a highlight of my day to walk with him
and watch him play.
I am attaching a few photos of Mikka. I have so many that I had
difficulty limiting the number I would send. Some of them were taken at
or around his first birthday and of course one from this winter.
Thanks again for the most wonderful dog in the whole world!
Best Regards,
Jo-Ann S.

sitting at the curb for me during walks then moves on, with "ok".He is

We love "Brandi" (huge dark brown female Raven x Hershey) to bits! She
goes into her crate at night and right off to sleep - slept til 8:00am
this morning! She sure doesn't follow the puppy "guidelines" for toilet
training. If we take her outside, she just runs around or follows us up
and down the run, and then sits and looks at us, as if to say "what am
I doing out here". She will usually go if we come in and leave her out
by herself, but it will often be two or three hours after she has
eaten. She's laying curled at my feet at the moment. Loves her "baby",
the squeaky toy you gave us. But I think I'm going to make one of
sturdier material, as she managed to open a seam already.
The groomer thought she was dream. She just stood there and let her
work away on her, and when she was done, Brandi curled up and went to
sleep. She was the same at the vet's - a real treat for him. Our beagle
used to work himself into a lather when he was there.
A question -your website says that we get a document with 5 generations, but we didn't receive that.
Love to All.

Hi Bijou Poodles,
"Tessa" (Black Standard Poodle out of Raven x Hershey), as you can see
by the attached photos is doing quite well and growing quickly! She got
a taste of her first snow fall today (last picture taken at lunch time)
and was obviously very busy discovering this new texture... and taste.
All those paw tracks you see on the deck are about 3 seconds old!
Obedience training is coming along nicely, as is the retrieving. Sit
(including whistle sit), stay, here, heel, kennel (including waiting
for release before leaving her kennel), short retrieves (back) in
confined areas both on and off leash, her first double retrieve today
(indoors), she likes her toys but looooooves anything that I strap
"fresh scent" feathers to. She is due for her second visit (last for
the year) at the vet tomorrow. I will confirm her weight is 20.4 lbs at
3 months of age.
May 5, 2006
It has been some time since I've sent you an update on Tessa. She is
doing very well... nothing but nerve and muscle! At almost nine
months, she is 26 inches at the shoulders and approximately 50
pounds. I will confirm a more accurate weight. She is quick to learn
and more than willing to comply. The more experienced trainers
(working mostly with Labs.) often tell me she is well ahead... and I
couldn't be happier with her. I often have to bear the brunt of these
"jealous" friends making jokes and asking if I have to stop in at the
beauty parlor on the way home from a day in the fields. These photos
really show them in their best elements... let me know what you think.
Cheers,

Update on TESS:
Hello and I hope you are well.
It has been a little while since I last gave you an update on Tessa; today seemed like a good time as she just had her yearly vet visit and boosters this morning.
The vet is still amazed at how fit and muscular she is. Needless to say, she passed her physical without any trouble. Her weight: 50.2 lbs.
Also, you will be happy to know that Tessa completed her second hunting season last weekend with 172 pheasants, every one of them retrieved to hand.
She is absolutely outstanding! Without exception, every time I'm out working with her, she will attract onlookers and praise for people surprised to see a poodle working
as a retriever/flusher and doing so with such grace.
My wife believes Tessa and I have a bond much deeper than that of a 'man and his dog', she swears it's a 'special psychological thing'!

hi Bijou Poodles,

The proof is in the picture. "Mavis" (dark black female) had a
fantastic start to her hunting career. She never showed any sign of gun
shyness. as a mater of fact to her the gun means there is fun to be
had. She showed very good ability in finding the birds...knows what
they are and that we want them.she found every bird that was
downed...very hesitant on the retrieving but that will come with time.
some dogs feel fetching is work and hunting is more fun.when she did
pick up she focused on that one bird and had to be coaxed back to fetch
the others.but all in all for 8 months old we are very happy.if you
want more pictures just let me know.
thank you again for such a great dog,

Hey there!!
Been a long time since I updated you on our little pup (who's not so
little anymore). She's been great! We all love her. So easy going and
smart. She's almost lost all of her baby teeth now so is nipping a lot
less. I took her over to see Maple (Cocoa litter of 2001, owned by John
R. and family). They live within walking distance from our house -
about a 25 minute walk. Tia is getting loads of exercise and doing all
sorts of interesting things. We bought her a life jacket because she
wasn't really doing well swimming on her own yet. I'm attaching some new
pics (some of her having a swimming lesson with daddy). I think Tia is
going to end up looking just like your "TJ". She's still pretty dark on her
ears and still has those green eyes too - a little more hazel now but
definitely not brown!!
I'm clipping her myself. I'm not doing a bad job with the puppy clip so
far. Just couldn't justify spending more money on her at the hair salon
than on myself! Also never imagined having to pull the hairs out of her
ears but I'm getting used to it.

Hi Bijou Standard Poodles,
Beaumont (dark brown male) is doing so good. It seems like he has been
here all along. He has just meshed so well with us. No accidents in the
house at all. He seems to know to go outside. He hasn't quite gotten
the idea that we want him to go in one specific spot in the yard, but
he's learning. He is becoming very comfortable in the crate and seems
very relaxed in there and knows it's rest time when he goes in. It
makes it easy to know when he has to go potty because if he is
restless, it is almost always cause he needs to go.
He had his first vet visit today and he passed with flying colors. He
was a big hit at the office. All the workers loved him and wanted to
keep him! The vet did say that one of his dew claws wasn't taken
completely off. There is a tiny bit of the nail still there and she
said he should have it taken off eventually. I've seen dogs with their
dew claws and as long as you trim them they're ok. Do you think we
should have it removed? It almost looks like it's not even going to
really grow. But she said to let you know because you seemed like such
a good breeder and that you would want to know.
Well, we are in love with our puppy and have you to thank for him! We
have been taking pictures and will send you a good one of him in his
new home.

Hi Bijou Poodles,
Our Puppy (black female) is sooo cute ... Bob is calling our Bichon 'The Prince of Pout' -
although we are hopeful he will come around soon. Violet doesn't seem
to notice him giving her the silent treatment - so it's all good.
We are leash training her to pee/poo in one spot - Wow, it seems to be
working:-) ...she cried all night (or so it seemed) the first night,
but by last night she was fine. Bob goes to work at 5am, so she gets
out to pee then and has a play for about 30 minutes and then back to bed
until the rest of civilization appears around 7:15am. And, we don't
put her in her crate for the night until 11pm-ish.
We love her already ... and are seriously trying not to ruin her - we
pretty much screwed up the Bichon - but fortunately he's small enough
that it's not too bad. We suspect a Violet without manners will not be
so tolerable. She is very eager to please and loves to be with us, so
training so far seems natural for her. Although again Bob pitches in
with a comment that credits Violets intelligence vs Muffy's small
head-small brain and the real reason.
In short, we are thrilled ... thank you so much for sharing her with
us,
Mary-Anne-Ontario
Dear Bijou Standard Poodles,
Ginger (black female) is doing very well with the toilet training and
has only made a few mistakes inside. (Thanks goodness for hard wood
floors!) We clean the area very well with one of the pet deodorizers so
that she doesn’t have a “spot” that she will go back to each time.
I must say that Ginger is one VERY smart little girl. She sits on
command already and will sit by her kennel when she is ready to eat.
She has quickly become a member of the family and the kids do great
with her. My 7 year daughter has a “command voice” that she uses and
has Ginger’s attention when she needs it. My son plays with Ginger when
we are outside and runs around the backyard like crazy. He throws a
Frisbee for Ginger and they both have a great time chasing it all over
the yard.
Thank you again for everything that you did to insure that we received Ginger safe and sound. We will send pictures very soon.
Regards,
Matthew - VA,USA
Hi Bijou Standard Poodles,
Hugo
(brown male) is doing great, he is sleeping in the bedroom with us and
problem solved, he is so good. He just wants to be with us at night. I
have been taking him to work with me and he either curls up and sleeps
in the car, or will snooze at my feet at my desk. Everyone is amazed at
how good and calm he is. I am head over heels in love, he is the
sweetest dog imaginable, so easy to train, he just loves doing
everything and is so quick to pick up on what ever it is I am asking. I
have his first appt at the vet for next week when he will be 12 weeks
and ready for another booster.
Many thanks,
Susan - ON

"Jack" Pictured at 1 year old
Hello Bijou Standard Poodles,
Jack (huge black male) went to the Veterinarian’s today. Everything
seems well with him. He weighs 12lbs.6oz (at 8 weeks of age). He was
very calm during the checkup. The only concern (very minor) is he has
two very small abrasions on his plantar pads from either walking on
concrete or from road salt (winter). His stool was negative.
Very playful with my two boys and slept really well in his crate last
night. Thanks for the advice regarding his crate, I have shortened
quite substantially with a cardboard box. No more accidents. He is
starting to head to the back door when he needs to pee! Only had two or
three pee accidents as we got busy talking and forgot to move quicker
to take him outside.
We are very happy with him and he is very social and will not leave our
sides. He loves my boys and every time they move he moves with them. Or
he has to lay his head and body on our feet when in the kitchen doing
dishes or sitting in a chair. We cannot believe his laid back
temperament for a puppy. We are just waiting for this to be too good to
be true and have him turn into a hellion! Is it fair to say your
breeding has produced a laid back puppy? Our visitors cannot believe
how easy going he is for a 9 eek old puppy.
The Vet also told me to switch to Eukanaba or Iams food as they said
this is better for his coat and skin. What do you suggest? I bought a
bag of the Kirkland and it seems to have good ingredients in it.
I have also attached a few pictures of Jack with Eric and Trevor.
Thanks again

Hi Bijou Standard Poodles,
We love our little girl, her name is Disco ( Bijou’s Disco Duck
Dog)(dark brown female). She rules the roost, fit right in with Moose
and Delta. Disco loves to chew on Moose and play chase with Delta.
Disco is going to puppy class and seems to enjoy it. She knows her
name, sit, stand, and come. I have also introduced feathers, and
bringing back toys. Tomorrow we are going to a “Fun Hunt” in Wisconsin,
Delta will retrieve, Moose will hang out and Disco will be introduced
to gun shot and whole birds. Looking forward to seeing her reaction. We
love her and thank you for such a great pup.
Sincerely,
Louann - Illinois, USA
Bijou Standard Poodles,
Sadie (brown female) is now three months old and getting better
everyday. Right now she is culrled at my feet while I write this.
Yesterday she went for a two kilometre walk around the river in
Stratford and wagged her tail and wiggled her bum everytime we passed
something living, two-legged or four! She just wants people to say,"Oh
aren't you beautiful" We had her nose, toes and tail area clipped, but
kept all of her puppy fun for now and she is beginning to look a lot
like a poodle. She is toilet trained, knows off, sit, down and the sound
of her food bowl. I am somewhat computer illiterate so I will have a
friend of mine try to send you some digital pictures. I am sure you
will want them because I am sure she is the prettiest (if not the
smartest) of all of her litter mates. By the way, Kevin adores her and
can't imagine life without her!
UPDATE:Sadie is 6 months old today and just about the
most perfect dog. Kevin thinks she understands every word you say to
her. She passed her first obedience class and was voted most improved
by her peers. I had to go to a gentle leader with her to walk and now
she just floats along. It was difficult for her to comprehend...with my
new knee I walk fairly slow and my Kevin walks quickly so I had to give
in and get the gentle leader so that I am walking her and not her
walking me. She now weighs 40 lb (I had to get her weighed to determine
the dose of Revolution to administer for heart worm and whatever.) She
loves going to the vets. She loves going anywhere and is very social
and most importantly rarely barks. She sits out the front on our busy
street and watches everyone go by. I take her for a run in the morning
before I go to school on a private road I know about and she gets
several walks during the day. She is still kennelled (sp.?) and will
stay quiet for nine hours at night! My dad adores her. He has been
hospitalized for two weeks and today Kevin and I took her to Stratford
and I brought him down to the garden so they could have a visit. She
was very gentle and did not jump at all. Just the tail going 90 miles
an hour!. My friend's sister wants to get a dog and she has recommended
a Standard and was told by my friend,"You must go to Adele's breeder.
She got a perfect dog!" I will pass all of the information on to her.
My clipper, who clipped our other dog and has been doing it for years,
came out after we got all of her puppy fur clipped off and said,"This
dog is a keeper!" And I said, (being the proud mama),"Oh I know we just
love her!!" She said,"No I mean her coat is wonderful. A puppy's fur
can be splotchy and this is fantastic and she holds out one paw and
then the other to have her nails done! This is not just the food you
feed her. It is in the breeding." That was when she was 5 months old.
She just gets better everyday. I can't say enough about her. I hope all
of her litter mates are making their families as happy as she has made
us. Thanks again. I now have the whole summer to be with her.

Hi Bijou Standard Poodles,
Both Nobu & Kama had a wonderful birthday today...all I can say is
that a year ago today I was out in Vancouver, up late one night,
surfing the web for brown poodles and I discovered your poodles. I
never ever could have imagined what a wonderful dog I would have, and
imagined even less that my sister would as well! Not only do we love
our dogs insanely, so many others have developed wonderful
relationships with them, I can say that with all the 'what kind of
dog is that" and "can I touch him" or look at 'chewie' or
'snufflelofogus' I have had the chance to meet lots of new people!
Everyone knows that Nobu's first haircut is Sept 20th, and while his
blonde puppy fluff will be sadly shorn, at 28inches tall and weighing
58 pounds, I am sure he will have a new mature look!
(Kama's appointment has yet to be made, I think Dinie still needs
lots of convincing!)
These 2 poodles are an absolute joy (I know we have said it before
but it is worth repeating)...I am going to register for agility class
in the fall so Nobu can keep on learning and we can keep on having fun!
Thanks and Happy Birthday to Mocha!
All the best
Alexandra- Montreal
(PSRight now Nobu is enjoying his bday present, the biggest bone I
have ever seen, he looks like bam bam from the flintstones!, pictures
to follow)
